What if a pedestrian is crossing the road into which I am turning?

You need to check as you are turning. Slow down your vehicle and give priority to the pedestrian who is crossing the road.

Strange how many London taxi drivers hoot at pedestrians crossing the road into which they are turning unaware that it is the pedestrians' right of way.

Pedestrians used not to have right of way in the UK, I believe, in any situation except when on a zebra crossing.

Hmnn. I’m not sure if you are giving that as the reason Taxi drivers don’t abide by it.
It wasn’t in the Highway Code when I passed my test in 1982, so even if freshly introduced then, not many of the current batch of drivers have that excuse!

Pet hate of mine and not just at corners. Why do drivers think they have right of way over pedestrians at any time .... We like the Americans think it’s acceptable to drive at pedestrians and run them over... un like the Europeans who give way.

My experience of being a pedestrian in NJ, DE, NYC, CA, and NE is that American drivers are generally observant of the right of way of pedestrians. Especially on right turns. It is pleasing to see increasing awareness of pedestrian priority on roads in the UK.

Who is responsible if a motorcyclist is going just above the speed limit (so police don't prosecute) but on approach to the a junction with a crossing and they are unable to see the other side of the road and the central reservation due to a build up of traffic in a filter lane and they hit a 12 year old child who runs out.
