Is it the responsibility of the driver to make sure that adult passengers wear seatbelts?20/11/2013 Car drivers and front seat passengers must wear a seat belt, unless they have a medical exemption certificate.
Adults travelling in the rear of a car must also use seatbelts, if they're fitted. It's the responsibility of the adult passenger (not the driver) to make sure that they are using the seatbelt. Children under the age of 14, travelling in the rear of a car that has appropriate restraints, must belt up. ' It is the responsibility of the driver to make sure children under 14 years of age are wearing their seatbelts...once 14 years old it is up to the passenger to take responsibility! Exemptions are allowed for the holders of medical exemption certificates and those making deliveries or collections in goods vehicles when travelling less than 50 metres (approx 162 feet). "once 14 years old it is up to the passenger to take responsibility!" What does that mean when stopped by a police officer? Is it an offence and does the driver bare any legal responsibility and be liable for prosecution.

I have moved and divorced dropping part of my hyphenated surname since my exemption was issued. Do I need to apply for a new certificate or is the one I have still valid?

In this case it is entirely your fault, but nothing to worry about. All emergency vehicle drivers are as much held responsible as any other drivers.

You have not stated what type of junction. Did it have "give way" markings? was it controlled by traffic lights ? Seems to me that if the 3rd party had stopped and then driven into your side because he hadn't noticed you, he must be at fault. You were there to be given way to and he didn't.

If in an accident as a passenger in back seat and not wearing seatbelt, can the driver claim compensation from me for causing them injuries. I was under influence of alcohol, but friends put me in the car and i don't remember and could not put own belt on due to intoxication.

Hello, I have a camper van and looking to turn the rear seats to face backwards. As a result the seatbelts will not be in the correct place for the seat and wont offer any restraint. Basically, are seatbelts required for rear facing seats?
