Rules Around Zebra Crossings need changing

7/3/2019

Under the current rules a car only has t stop when a pedestrian has entered the crossing. So like most people who don't trust in people stopping, wait till the car comes to a stop. However the rule states that a car does not have to give way to the pedestrian until there person steps out!!.

To make matter worse rule 195 says that you should wait till traffic stops before crossing. It is my opinion that traffic should give priority to pedestrians and stop allowing them to cross. To save the confusion and i see more and more cars driving through once your half way over the crossing.

This does not seem to apply to supermarket zebra crossing. Where they walk out if the shop, straight onto crossing without even a glance to see if there are any cars.

It's understandable that pedestrians may feel unsafe and uncertain when crossing roads, especially when it comes to relying on drivers to stop for them. The current rules regarding crossing can be confusing and ambiguous, leading to potentially dangerous situations. It's crucial for both drivers and pedestrians to understand and follow the rules to ensure safety on the roads. However, prioritizing pedestrian safety should be a top priority, and drivers should be more cautious and aware of pedestrians when approaching crossings. In turn, pedestrians should also exercise caution and follow guidelines when crossing the road. Ultimately, creating a safer environment for all road users requires cooperation and awareness from everyone involved.
